After posting Susan's Shed Tara, she sent me some back story:
The shed is in Lake Charles, Louisiana (gardening zone 9). Two weeks after Hurricane Katrina, Susans's town was torn up by Hurricane Rita. Fortunately, Susan's house was ok, but she lost every tree on her property except for the old persimmon.
What was once a beautiful, private shade garden is now a newly planted sun garden.
Here's the garden before Hurricane Rita:
And here's the garden after Hurricane Rita:
Remarkably, the Tara, the garden shed, remained untouched:
Susan knows the garden will never be the same in her lifetime, but you can see she's made good strides with some new plantings. That's Jenny the dog enjoying the shade:
New crepe myrtles and a Drake Elm were planted to replace the pine trees:
The neighbor's tree gives the only shade in the yard:
It is so bright that Jenny needs sunglasses:
Susan uses a shade cloth to protect her ferns:
Here's a lovely assortment of garden art:
Thanks to Susan for sending the photos and sharing your story.
